There are many types of wake-up alarm systems that are available in the market. The most common wake-up alarm system is where users can set the alarm using time-based system. Users just need to key in the time that they want to be alerted. They usually use the wake-up alarm system to wake them up from a short nap or night’s sleep. However, the wake-up alarm system using the time-based system is difficult to use by the users of public transport because they need to know the arrival time to a particular destination with several factors that need to be taken into account. Therefore, a GPS-based wake up alarm system has been developed in this project mainly for Android smartphone. The project is mainly for smartphone users because most people are travelling using smartphone instead of tablets or smartwatches. The user’s initial and target location are detected by the GPS technology embedded in the smartphone. When the current location of the user matched with the pre-set destination, the alarm activates preset sound and wake up the users in case they fall asleep. The user can rely to this mobile application when they are travelling by using the public transport because this application managed to alert the user based on the preset target location when they are arriving to the location. Therefore, this mobile application gives benefits to mostly the travellers that are using the public transport or someone who is new to a place they are traveling.
